Saitek x52 Throttle Setup
Hi all, maybe you guys can help me with this.

I'm trying to set up my x52 throttle for FS2O. I can set the throttle fine using the assignments screen (F2).

For anybody not familiar with the x52 throttle it has two "detents" i.e. stops at the high and low end of the throttle motion. What I'd like to do is setup the high end as the afterburners. But I can't quite get it exactly how I want it. Here is what I can get:

1) I set the joystick in settings to "Absolute Range." Here, I get a nice smooth and accurate throttle...stopping the throttle in the middle sets my in game speed to the middle, etc. Problem: the range of motion is "100%" to get to max speed, I have to go past the high detent and to get to zero speed I have to go past the low (idle) detent. It's annoying to always have to hit those speed bumps.

2) I set the joystick in settings to "Relative Range." I know this is meant for the mouse, but when applied to the throttle I get the range of motion I'm looking for. The low (idle) detent is ZERO speed. The high detent is max speed. I can then assign the afterburners to the high detent using the joystick software. Problem: throttle basically only has two speeds when in between detents...max and zero. Putting it in the middle from say low, does nothing...have to go all the way to max to move the needle. It's as though it has this massive dead zone.

3)I could set the throttle range using the joystick software using the -/= keys. Doing this does work, but similar to problem 2 I can't get the nice and smooth accuracy that I get from #1.

Does anybody have any suggestions to solving the above problem? I'd love to somehow be able to implement option 2 with a much lower "dead zone." Is there a configuration file I can get into and monkey around with? Has anybody with this controller implemented option #3 successfully? If so where did you set your bands?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

First of all,

:welcomeblue:

As far as I know, there is no way (as of yet) to adjust the size of the throttle deadzone in FS Open.  You either go with Absolute's nonexistent deadzone or Relative's massive deadzone, and I haven't heard of anyone setting the high end of the throttle to trigger afterburners.  However, you might want to consider bringing this up in the SCP forum, as new ideas are always welcome.

If you don't have Knossos, you need it.

Well, really, the only thing I can think of that you can do is use the bands option for your throttle axis in the SST and setting the afterburner key's band to the 99%-100% range and setting it as a macro or advanced keystroke.
