Hi, I know there was a thread about this very long ago, but can't find it. Anyone knows how to extract fs2 music? I intend to play it in the background while playing Freelancer cos FL music sux.
Thanks!!

Use VPView or Maja to open the FS2 VP files.

You'll get a lot of little chunks that way, though. Someone may have complete versions lying around.

I strongly suggest you use Maja. It works, and works well.

If you need to piece music together, get Audacity:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

If you want some interesting alternate music, or some of the original source files Dan Wentz himself sent to Nix, check this thread:

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=43106.0

Lastly, If you can't play .ogg files, you'll need the .ogg codecs. Get them here:

...I hope this helps.  ;)

I've got pretty much all of the music from 1 and 2 organized into albums with proper titles, etc. if you're interested in that.  The single piece of music I cannot get (and desperately want) is the music from FS2's opening cutscene.

Anyone know of a way to get it?

You obviously skipped Thaeris' post, because there's a link to a Zip containing some extra music files in that Nix thread. :p

Oh, and here are the FS2 music files I've compiled so far:

...cos FL music sux.

Actually, I had opened it in a new tab that I'd forgotten about when I made that post.  I found it a little bit later, downloaded a bunch of your files and converted them to mp3 with Audacity.  Thanks!

Also, I kind of liked the music in Freelancer.  Oh well.
  Sorry, I meant StarLancer.

Edit: I also just compared the FS2 Intro track Nix got from Dan Wentz, and it appears to be an earlier version.  If you watch the cutscene, just before the Anubis fighters do the flyby you can hear a bit of harmony  on strings that isn't present in the .flac file.
