Hi all,

ive upgraded to windows 7 and it got me thinking as to whether i just start upgrading the rest of the PC, more memory, soundcards, etc, etc

I currently have a Dell XPS 720, quad-core 2.8 with a Nvidia Gforce 8800 GTX. Is there any need to upgrade the graphics card or should i leave it a while longer?

i only have a 2.4 dualcore, and a 8600GTX, and that works fine for now, your better setup should be fine through to 2011 unless you want a really pretty game.
wait till something you really want is released, then upgrade for it.

but that's me, waiting on BF3, but by then i'll probably just get a new machine..
and that will likely be 2011/12

cheers for the help all,

think it is best to wait for a while, see what next gen cards come out.

All the games play very well at the moment anyhow. :)

no need to upgrade. the performance difference between a 8800 series card and any of the newer ones isnt really that big as its made out to be, as there simply isnt any game that can use it properly (if you are a freak that has to have AA and AF at 16x in a crappy optimised game like crysis, not even the newest cards will help you tho...)

It's actually a pretty good time to buy a card, as anything you buy now will probably last until the next generation of consoles comes out. The only thing that might be worth waiting for is Nvidia's Fermi is March or April, and ATI will probably have a refresh of the 5800 out by that point too.

If you have something from the GTX200/4800 generation then there is very little to justify an upgrade, but an 8800 will not be quite fluid in some games at 1920x1080.
