Well I got a little extra money... need to pick a HD so I can make backups and so forth.
I think the contenders are:
WDH2NC20000N - 2TB WD NAS via Ethernet and USB2 storage expansion.
Uses two 1TB WD Green drives with 8MB cache.
About $180
WD Caviar Green 2TB - WD20EADS
Newer Green drive, about 40% slower than the black variant. SATA
About $106
WD Caviar Black 2TB - WD2001FASS
Fastest of all the above, also power hungry. SATA.
About $180
Running mostly on Win XP systems. I'm considering that it might be useful to run over Ethernet for the
NAS option, and I have another WD USB2 1TB drive I could plug into it. The options for viewing
stored media around the house might be nice.
However I'm concerned that the older green drives with such small cache are really going to be a pain.
Plus since the unit is so old, am I really overpaying for the tech that is included?
Not looking at running RAID as I need the full size of the disk. Already have 1TB and some used as is, which is strewn
across several other external and internal disks.
Thoughts?
