Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Within the last year I bought a Toshiba laptop with Vista on the promise that when windows 7 came out I would get a free copy... which I did.

However as a computer builder when I received the windows 7 upgrade disk I went ahead and said screw Toshiba crapware and formatted the HDD and installed a clean install of Windows 7. Everything was running like a charm. Since I was about to move I didn't have much time to play with it so I had only installed the first Medal of Honor for ****s and giggles. Ran well on full everything of course and I figured everything was hunky dory. Well swipe to now I have some time on my hands and I decided to download Steam as Sandy had been on my case to play Portal (late much?). First I installed Team Fortress 2 played for a bit. It runs great and I decided to install Half Life 2 from my Steam account as well. Everything runs beautifully. I think in there somewhere I also installed C&C Renegade... also runs well.

In the end I decided that I wanted to continue playing Mass Effect so I tried to reinstall that... no go. The computer gets stuck on the splash screen. I go online to troubleshoot and waste, literally, 15+ straight hours installing, uninstalling, updating, compatibility mode, run as admin, and every combination therein to no avail. I was so sure there was something wrong with Mass Effect because so many thousands of users have issues with it. But eventually I gave up and decided to reinstall Supreme Commander and play that through to tide me over till I could afford number 2.

That is when the warning bells went off. Supreme Commander installed started to load with the splash screen and then sat and did nothing. it eventually becomes unresponsive and I end the task. I started to fear that something was fudged up when I had clean installed Windows 7... I figure something in there is not communicating as it should because I didn't install the Toshiba crapware.

Just last night I bought and installed the new Transformers game... I wanted to try something that was designed to run work on windows 7... no luck... the program doesn't even try and launch. no splash screen no anything. There is nothing that even changes in the task manager wether I try and launch it from Steam or directly from the folder it's installed in. Also, not sure if this matters, half the games don't appear in the "games" folder of windows 7 however they are NOT only the ones I have trouble with.

So if anyone has any kind of suggestions that do not involve getting another Toshiba crapware disc and reinstalling windows with all their BS I am all ears.

i'd visit toshiba's website.  shouldn't be hard to discern bloatware from actual drivers.

no, nothing on those disks was needed, just get the drivers from the component manufacturers.
