Im looking to buy some over ear headphones, but I know very little about headphones in general and was hoping you could help me out.
I really, really, like how the skullcandy headphones look, but I hear skullcandy's break easily. the thing I want the most out of my headphones would be quality and looks.

my budget is around $60.

i buy the cheapest earbuds possible. then again i was quite fond of those jvc gummy headphones, they fit my ears and stayed in without any help from those impossible to use over the ear hangers. i have too much hair to use real headphones comfortably.

I've been using Sennheiser HD515's for, uh, closer to three years I think. Been good, although there is a mechanical vulnerability in the structure of the phones (it's possible for the wire connecting right speaker to the left to be mangled in repeated use, which can cause sporadic playback on right ear. Can be fixed though. Also, they are open dynamic headphones which means they don't really attenuate sounds from the environment. For that, closed headphones are better (and a lot more sweaty to use). Sennheisers are a good brand, if you have the cash to spill on them.

When I'm traveling I'm using Koss Sparkplugs. They aren't expensive, but produce sufficient audio quality and pretty good attenuation of environmental noise.

Are they over ear or on ear? Ive been reading the reviews on amazon and some are saying they are over-ear, whiles others say its on-ear.

Im going to be using it for indoor and outdoor use, but I have my canalphones for jogging/gym, should I look for on-ear headphones or over-ear ones?

Take your pick: stylish headphones that sound like ass or ugly headphones that sound fantastic. Skullcandy products are all about style and nothing about sound quality.

Anyways, perhaps JVC HARX900 or Grado SR60i's.

im not looking for earbuds, I have a pair of those, im looking for something with more quality for when I play video games on my laptop at school between classes and in my room at 2am.

I've heard that open-ear headphones lend themselves to broader soundstages, but I've only compared the grado SR60 and senhiesser (sp) HD215s, and there's not too much of a difference with the soundstage. If you're going to be using them outside, I'd definitely say get around ear, closed cans just for better isolation. My Grado SR-60i is open and it's really leaky; anything over half volume on my PMP can be heard by people next to me. Still good sound quality, but I'd say get what you think will suit when you'll be using it.
