OK here's the deal....

This is the best game I've ever played and I want to learn about modding, FRED2, etc..

Could some of you peeps be so kind as to point out or post links to any reference material, software programs etc... to help me get started. There was a post in the VBB in its final days linking to some free software, did anyone save those links? I thank you in advance for all your help  

One other thing.... its about the source code, I'm looking for any information to help me get started in learning all this. Apparently its C++

The best ways to learn FRED2 is either to do the "extended walkthrough" in the help files or to play around with everything and see how it works (which is what I did ). For table editing stuff, just download a copy of VPView and open up the tbl files with any standard editor; they are pretty self-explanatory and are loaded with informational comments. As for modeling, I'm a bit of a newbie to that myself, so I don't think I can help there, but you can get some modeling program and learn that using the included tutorials. (I'm using 3DS max)

Okay. I haven`t updated my FAQ since the VBB went completely down but there is still plenty of relevent information there and links to ZB's beam FAQ, the FS2 Reference Guide and VPView. You`ll probably find uses for all of those.
