A History of the GTC Fenris
I plan to go all the way to the end of the Second Shivan Incursion.

Origins of Project Fenris (2317 – 2322)

Han-Ronald Corporation's Fenris and Leviathan class cruisers are perhaps the most successful warship designs in Terran history.  The Fenris was originally commissioned by the GTA just after the Titan Accords were signed.  Along with Project Apollo and Project Gaia1, Project Fenris was designed to promote military spending and development.  Initially, lawless activity was still a problem in the new GTA - n particular, several groups from the former Kuiper Federation caused trouble.  As the new GTA had inherited several old warships, High Command decided to replace the Damocles (among other assets).
Project Fenris was begun in January of 2317.  The team shared several members with Project Gaia, and at least one with Project Apollo.  Thus, while the progress of Project Apollo interested the Fenris team little, the pacing of the Gaia endeavor was directly tied.  The GTD Orion – because of structural damage to her sister ship the GTD Gaia – was the product of Project Gaia in September of 2319.  The first Fenris class cruiser was completed in December of that same year.  The short development cycles of both warships were the product of existing research by the UNE, LR, and PRM militaries before war had broken out.  In several places, existing technologies and design strategies were merely adapted to new technology.  An obvious manifestation of this is the Fenris' similarity in appearance to the Atropos class frigate.
Several new technologies had to be researched for both the Gaia and the Fenris.  As the Fenris was designed to be a strike weapon, efficient engine technology and light armor were driving concerns.  The forward bottom turret on the Fenris was intended to be armed with a railgun similar to the ones mounted on the Orion class2 - this extra space was important in the later addition of a beam cannon.  Unfortunately, space could not be found in the space-frame to store a workable amount of ammunition (a problem that plagued the ship, and the Leviathan, in future upgrades).  The weapon was downgraded to a ballistic turret like the rest.  The GTA was counting on both the fragility of hostile fighters and the success of its own to protect the Fenris in its operational capacity.  A decision was made to arm all eight turret spaces with anti-ship ballistic weaponry – leaving anti-fighter defense to the ship's escort.
One of the more remarkable features of the Fenris class is the bottom missile battery.  Again, crossovers with the Orion class are found.  The original design for the large railguns on the Orion was to alternate them with large anti-ship missile batteries.  Unfortunately, a solution that was both sufficiently efficient and powerful enough could not be found before the rest of the ship was complete.  A smaller version found its way to the Fenris class, enabling it to attack warships with a large magazine of heavy dumbfire rockets.
The GTC Fenris was launched in December of 2319.  By the start of the Terran-Vasudan war in February of 2321 the Fenris class had almost entirely replaced the Damocles.  Damocles class cruisers saw limited action in the Terran-Vasudan War, and most were decommissioned by 2322.  The Fenris was very successful in the first months of the war.  Several ships of the Fenris class escorted the GTD Gaia as she crushed the Vasudans in their invasion of Sol in April (Battle of Sol).  In September of 2322 the Vasudans countered the Orion class with the PVD Thanatos.  By November of the following year GTA officials had determined the war was in serious danger of degrading into a stalemate.  While the first few years were considerably more violent than analysts had initially expected, they were not far from the truth.  An upgraded version of Fenris, dubbed the Leviathan, was commissioned and Han-Ronald's engineering team went back to the drawing board.

1 In the TVWP continuity, the destroyer was going to be called the GTD Gaia.  Due to unspecified delays, however, her sister ship, the Orion, was finished first.  Hence, the class name is GTD Orion.
2 This 'continuity' assumes that Plasma and Laser weapons (at least efficient ones) were a technology reverse engineered from the Vasudans.  Hence, the large three part turrets on the Orion originally mounted heavy cannons.

It tries to be continuous with the TVWP canon (which can be found on the Wiki) for the Terran-Vasudan War period.  Much more to follow; I'll post as I complete sections.

Re: A History of the GTC Fenris
Curse you for getting to this idea first.

Though I suppose you didn't really since Stories from Sol has brief technical digressions for the pre-Fenris classes and I didn't copy TVWP.
