I'm in Enfield, and am old enough to remember the Poll Tax riots.
This isn't rioting, it started out with some anger in Tottenham, but now it's just bandwagon jumping and an excuse to smash-raid shops. There was genuine anger on the streets during the Poll Tax riots, even those who weren't involved pretty much understood why it was happening, but this? No-one even really knows why they are doing it this time round.
Personally, I think that what we're seeing here is more a product of bored disaffected youth with little chance of a bright future than any 'statement' being made.
