Is this just a coincidence? I don't think so, someone in that publishing company has a sense of humor, and is probably laughing right now. I wouldn't out rule intelligence services being subtle either.

I'm so happy our American posters a finally getting to grips with irony after it was discovered in San Francisco recently

I'm sure that we all get the irony. I also hope that the esteemed members of this forum realise that there is a difference between being the founder of a site that facilitates "leaks" of important world affairs and a blatant breach of contract between two individuals. And yes, I think that Assange's assertion that it is a quick buck thing, rather than something from "freedom of speech" applies.

Perhaps people want too much for this story to be about self-irony that they don't pay enough atention to the details that show that it isn't quite so?

Of course.  Actually, the people Wikileaks gets information from are often under oaths as well as contracts, which is a hell of a lot more serious than breach of a publishing contract to boot.

Assange seems to think he should be able to freely publish whatever he wants and to hell with the world (and rake in the cash and fame while he's at it, not the least of which comes from the sale of things like his autobiography), but nobody else should be able to do the same to him.  I'm just glad he's getting a taste of his own medicine.
