If Assange managed to utter that with a straight face, the man has missed a brilliant career in comedy.  Holy ****, definition of irony anyone?

Is this just a coincidence? I don't think so, someone in that publishing company has a sense of humor, and is probably laughing right now. I wouldn't out rule intelligence services being subtle either.

This tested my self control.

If the test failed, I'd have burst out laughing in the middle of a lecture.

Case of ridiculous irony, or cruel publicity stunt? Is it possible?

I don't see what the problem is

just change the autobiography that they'll gonna release so it's different from the leaked version

Re: Oh, the Irony... (Wikileaks related)
I'm so happy our American posters a finally getting to grips with irony after it was discovered in San Francisco recently

"SAN FRANCISCO MAN BECOMES FIRST AMERICAN TO GRASP SIGNIFICANCE OF IRONY   -   Jay Fullmer, 38, yesterday became the first American to get to grips with the concept of irony. "It was weird" Fullmer said. "I was in London and like, talking to this guy and it was raining and he pulled a face and said, "great weather, eh?" and I thought "wait a minute, no way is it great weather". Fullmer then realised that the other man's 'mistake' was in fact deliberate.
Fullmer, who is 39 next month and married with two children, aged 8 and 3, plans to use irony himself in future. "I'm like using it all the time" he said. "Last weekend I was grilling steaks and I burned them to sh!t and I said "hey, great weather!"."

I'm sure that we all get the irony. I also hope that the esteemed members of this forum realise that there is a difference between being the founder of a site that facilitates "leaks" of important world affairs and a blatant breach of contract between two individuals. And yes, I think that Assange's assertion that it is a quick buck thing, rather than something from "freedom of speech" applies.

Perhaps people want too much for this story to be about self-irony that they don't pay enough atention to the details that show that it isn't quite so?

But doesn't Assange get all the leaked information from people who are breaching their contracts in the exact same manner?

Of course.  Actually, the people Wikileaks gets information from are often under oaths as well as contracts, which is a hell of a lot more serious than breach of a publishing contract to boot.

Assange seems to think he should be able to freely publish whatever he wants and to hell with the world (and rake in the cash and fame while he's at it, not the least of which comes from the sale of things like his autobiography), but nobody else should be able to do the same to him.  I'm just glad he's getting a taste of his own medicine.
