well at least some of the people they put to death deserve it.

also now the Perry is in the presidential race, are we going to get a news story on _every_ Texas execution? that's going to get old quick.

He deserved it, but punishing the family like that isn't cool in my book.
and I feel.bad reading the details of the execution , as described it sounds worse.

Re: a more uplifting Texas execution story
So, two men were executed Wednesday.  One was a white convicted of killing a black; one was a black convicted of killing a white.  Both denied culpability for their crime on the day they were executed.  Why hang-wringing over one but cheering over the other?

If you're against the death penalty, you should be against it in both cases.  If you want clemency for the accused because of his protestations of innocence, you should want it in both cases.

To head off the inevitable digression, I'm not familiar with either case, so I won't pretend to judge the true guilt or innocence of either man.

Re: a more uplifting Texas execution story
The white guy admitted his guilt and had evidence tying him to the crime.

The black guy had 7 witnesses recant their statements, and no evidence was ever found.

this

that's why I titled this thread the way I did, this guy was clearly guilty and deserved it, unlike the other guy who was probably not guilty.

Re: a more uplifting Texas execution story
have I ever said I was against the death penalty?

obviously you should not punish people for crimes they did not commit, but you should punish them for the crimes they did.

Re: a more uplifting Texas execution story
Even putting moral qualms aside, I don't think there's ever been any demonstrative evidence that the death penalty serves as an effective deterrent, and when you throw in appeals, it often costs more to execute someone than it would to keep them fed and imprisoned for the rest of their days.  The concept as a whole hardly seems worth it.
