first step: max to .dae to pcs 2
Hi,
I have studied most of the information available here and at the wiki page for 3 days straight.
But I am still stuck at the first stage.
1. I have Max 2011. It has a default export setting:
Autodesk Collada and the file is  .DAE
Is this good or do I still need to install the plug-in
ColladaMax_FREE_3.05C.
2. I want to begin very very simple with modding in freespace (most favorite game ever!).
I have a bit modding skills: Nexus –TJI.
What I want to do is to put an already build model with baked textures via MAX.
Saving it as a .DAE and import it in PCS2 > POF model.
Just to see if it works in game and to begin step by step. Very easy and simple at first without all the other hardpoints/turrets etc.
But of course the model needs to be named Detail0.
I have studied all the relevant information and downloaded the awesome pdf for noobs.
I would really appreciate any help and advice.

Yes, absolutely, get the plug-in; the built-in exporter/importer is crap, or at least unsuitable for conversion work. Although you might want to get the newer OpenCollada plug-in instead. I've used in extensively and have not found any problems.

@zookeeper

Thanks very much for the link. I've converted the model to a .dae file and am trying to open it with pcs2. But in all formats it does not appear.
When i go through the dropdown list the .dae format does not appear.

In PCS 2 preferences the texture path is to a file i've made in the FS 2 main directory, name of the mod > data > maps.
The temporary dir is in the pcs main dir.
Have i got something wrong?

Well, what PCS2 version you got? Maybe you're using a really old one without .dae support.

You can get the most recent one from the sticky in the tools forum.
