Homeworld and Windows XP
It seems that I can't install Homeworld on Windows XP.  Everytime I start WISE installer to install Homeworld or HW:C, it asks me to type in the product code.  But every time I type the code in from the CD jewel case, WISE tells me that the code is incorrect.  This is the same code I used to install the games onto Windows 98 SE.  Anyone with suggestions for me to try?

Yep - go grab a code generator for it and try that.

Than email them and tell them what a bunch of morons they were for spending thousands on a code protection system that only stops people who bought the game from playing it.

I havn't had any trouble with Catacylsm on xp, but homeworld... it installed properly on my dvd drive... but then it wouldn't run off the dvd drive... saying that there is not a valid homeworld disc in the drive... so I popped it into my burner... and it runs... but no sound! but aside from random crashing its still kinda playable...

Make sure you didn't accidently type a 'oh' for a 'zero', or vice-versa. and 'eye' for a 'one', etc.

I've only played the demo, so I wouldn't have this prob.
Anyway, go to somewhere removed and they may have a bypass for that product code.

Ehh.. I'd edit that before T notices it...
It should install fine on XP. It does on mine. I dont know what could be causing that other than that youre typing it wrong. If you do get it to install and cant get it to run, use the compatability wizard and tell it to run in NT Service Pack 4.

Yeah, you need a code gen for most later versions of Windows. Modern compatibility is lovely, isn't it? I can remember my copy of Win 95, ran most DOS games made years before without a hitch... now, 2000 can't even support a lotta 98 stuff, XP can't do **** PERIOD... *sigh*

Let's nuke the bastards. All of 'em.

Indeed as Thorn said edit your post, as we don't like warez stuff here, and it's against the board rules. And could result in banning if one of the admins is having a bad day;) so get rid of the link ASAP.

While this is for a legitimate reason, please avoid posting links to crack sites.

It's simple really.

Gamespy supports us.  They don't want to be seen as supporting warez or cracking, for reasons that should be obvious.  Thus, HLP doesn't support warez or cracking either.  However, we try not to be too hypocritical and as such we don't actively go after people using it.  It'd be pointless.... and hypocritical for some of us.  So we simply passively remove any links or anything else.

There are many freely available IM programs out there, keep it private pleace.

Maybe its got something to do with your Win XP... try gettin the latest updates. Amazingly, there is no information about how to fix this from the Sierra tech suppor site... It seems that nobody else has had that problem.

I had the same prob when I first got HW myself (I was using Win98 at the time too). I called up tech support and they verified that my code was good but (long story short) I had to reformat & reinstall windows to get it to work... But I haven't had a problem installing it since... So there must be some other program or driver or whatever that's messing it up...
HLP's... Ummm... Can I get back to you on that?

Ummm... how exactly do you patch a game if you can't even install it?

Its entirely prpbably C-dilla or securedisk drivers could screw it

This is getting so funny its unbeleivable - now not only do we have stupid security standards that stop people from installing things they actually bought (Flexlm that comes with high end 3D apps is an utter pig..TCP based protection..)...

But now they intefere with each other stopping people from running almost everything!

How utterly laughable.

I think we should all chip in and sue the entire industry for being a bunch of moronic twats.
