Re: Poll: Who read the FreeSpace manuals?
I don't think my copies of FS1 came with a physical manual for whatever reason, but I know I have one for FS2 sitting around here somewhere.  I read the hell out of the ones for the Descent Definitive Collection and Descent 3, too.

Re: Poll: Who read the FreeSpace manuals?
i got the dual-jewel fs1/ST pack, no manual there.  got the manual with FS2.  i don't remember whats in it, but i'm sure i read it before playing, because i always do that if i have one.  when i buy a physical game copy, i get pissed if it doesn't come with a manual.  i usually forget to check for a manual for steam games, but i get pissed then also if there isn't one available when i check (usually because the game isn't explaining the mechanics enough).  it's even more frustrating when manuals for the games exist, but steam doesn't provide them, and i end up with a ****ty scanned UK version or something from the far reaches of the internet.

Yea, I tend to read all the manuals. Usually long after I've started playing the game, but anyways.

Re: Poll: Who read the FreeSpace manuals?
I remember skimming through the manual which came with my boxed copy of Conflict: FS, yeah. Also in the box was a brilliant triangular prism made of card, on each side of which was a keyboard layout. Overlayed on one side were basic controls, on another advanced movement controls, and the third advanced targeting controls. Given Freespace's large number of different controls this came in very handy when I was young.

I'll vote Snuffy this time, the training missions in the FS 1 and FS 2 campaigns were what taught me to fly.

Re: Poll: Who read the FreeSpace manuals?
Well, I have the FS2 manual, and I just looked on my nerdgasmic manual-shelf to see if I did, so that should count. :p

Might have flipped through it to see if there were any pretty pictures while installing it the first time, but that's it.

Yeah, that's about the same for me. FS1 I got a combo pack thing that didn't include the manual.

The original FS manual was in fact where I got my callsign from.

Yes. I saw it in one of the manual pictures for the barracks and I thought "Sounds cool, ill use that" and so I picked it and used it ever since.

I've never really read them, just looked at them a couple of times. Three at best.

Back in the golden age of videogames. Manuals were actually useful and interesting to read.

defo, tons of background story, character stories, weapon descriptions.  some of the things were bigger than the phone book.

Re: Poll: Who read the FreeSpace manuals?
I read the manual a few times, but all the stuff I needed/wanted turned out to be in-game or in the techroom.  Probably shouldn't have spent as much time on it as I did.
