Is there any way to enable the "grant medal" and "grant promotion" in fred2 without having to copy it every time?

My freding skill are a bit rusty, but I think you can type in the grant-medal SEXP, and then the name of the medal you want to grant.

Oh, and it only works if your mission is part of a campaign.

He's right. Just click on the do-nothing until you can type over it and replace it with grant-medal.

I think grant-promotion works too.

I would be really hesitant to use that one-if it works at all-because you would render the significance of promotions worthless if you actually were to use it in a campaign.  Promotions are given based on points, awarded for killing ships or completing mission objectives (with a modifier for difficulty level), and are cumulative for the player, period.  I myself am an Admiral (though I sort of hacked my way to it), but I have something like 11 million points (fighters give about five, BTW).  They only apply in campaigns, and are a good indication of how much you play campaigns overall, as well as your relative skill.  Well, over captain it's just how often you play campaigns.  If you put the tag in a campaign, all it would take is some goon playing through your campaign on very easy twelve times (or to the point where you give the promotion and then resetting it) to become a full Admiral, without any accomplishment to speak of.
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

should work, it's a valid operator (Restricted to single player, though, for obvious reasons)

Anyone noticed how hard it is to get promoted in FS2, in FS1 you get promoted all the time, but in 2 you can finish the campaign and still be an ensign.

While I agree that grant-promotion shouldn't be maybe used, you could make a sexp which needs that skill level is insane and you need to something very hard, maybe then grant-promotion wouldn't be too bad idea. ;)

When I finish the campaign in a new pilot, I usually end up Lt. Cmdr. at best. Consider that I play it through on Medium
