Not recognizing OpenGL.
I have my drivers up to date, however when I try to launch fred2_open_3_6_14 it claims that "Current GL Version of 1.1 is less than the required version of 1.2.
Switch video modes or update your drivers.
ntdll.dll! KiFastSystemCallRet
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
fred2_open_3_6_14.exe! <no symbol>
fred2_open_3_6_14.exe! <no symbol>
fred2_open_3_6_14.exe! <no symbol>
fred2_open_3_6_14.exe! <no symbol>
fred2_open_3_6_14.exe! <no symbol>"

I know that this is an issue with some FRED builds, or that it is only reading the zeros, or whatever.  Could someone please tell me how to fix this. I've been looking for help for going on two months now.

Thank you

Re: Not recognizing OpenGL.
Good, you've run FRED debug: there should now be a file called fred2_open.log in <FreeSpace2>/data. That's the file we need.

Re: Not recognizing OpenGL.
... oh, and the log is usually either attached to a post or put between [code] tags :P

Are you sure you have the latest GPU drivers? Where did you get them, and what kind of GPU are you running?

Re: Not recognizing OpenGL.
I just upgraded my drivers today, I've got an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Dual Core.  Display adapter driver version is 9.18.13.2018.

Re: Not recognizing OpenGL.
Hmmm. You have the latest drivers but why are you running FRED in 640x480 resolution ? Also are you able to run Freespace Open (the game) ?

Re: Not recognizing OpenGL.
should be able too, hell I run MVP 3.6.12 on a 6600 GT.

first idea that springs to my head would be driver corruption, so a manual uninstall and reinstall of the drivers would be my next step

Re: Not recognizing OpenGL.
Many thanks my friends, it is now working like a charm. ;)

By the way, do any of you know how to install Stratcomms fleetpack? I was also having a little trouble with that. Anyway, thanks a lot for putting in the time to help me.

Re: Not recognizing OpenGL.

Crash course: make a new folder inside your main FS2 directory (named however you want, e.g. 'stratcomm'), then a folder named 'data' inside that. Then, in /data, create /models, /maps and /tables. Put all .tbl and .tbm files in /tables, all .pof in /models and all .pcx, .jpg, .tga and .dds in /maps. Then, from the launcher, select your new mod and pray it works :)

Alternatively, you could download Blue Planet (just Age of Aquarius will suffice), a mod which has all of StratComm's ships lined up and ready to play with. Oh, and it has a pretty amazing campaign, too.

Small note: FRED will always report a requested resolution of 640x480, no matter how large the window is.

Re: Not recognizing OpenGL.
Ya, I have Blue Planet (best mod I've ever had) and you are correct: It does come with it's own version of FRED, but the new ships don't appear in the menu.

Thanks anyway

UPDATE: Other way worked fine. Once again, thank you.
