MS has recently released Visual Studio 2013 RC1.

I will be adding solution files to the SVN shortly, but be aware that you cannot build FRED with it out of the box, since building MFC applications with a non-Unicode charset is disabled by default. If you do want to build FRED, you need to install this thing as well.

I wonder if it's possible to hack that into the Express edition and edit some menus manually like it has sort of been possible before...at least this time it'd be with a separate download they provided
