Is the translater a part of your fighter\bomber?

If so can it be damaged\damaged beyond repair?

If not, how exactly to Terrans and Vasudans communicate? I remember that translator thing in the Fs1 cutscene where they were experimenting with shield systems, but that was a part of a console. Remember when you had that pilot exchage where you had to go onboard the Psamtik? How would you communicate with the crew when you were onboard?

If in that Fs1 cutscene they had to use a translater thing thats is on the console, then they must not have a smaller translater. And what about that CB ani in Fs1, when the Vasudan scientists were calling for help from Altair? The CB ani looks like that translater from that cutscene.

I ran across a fanfiction database sometime recently, and I think the translators were explained in it.  Maybe a tech room type thing, I don't remember.  Anyway, I think that in normal conversation the translator is a voicebox attached to one of the speakers, of either race (usually worn by Vasudans), that broadcasts a translation and translates all speach into an earpiece.  On a Vasudan ship, I guess the terran would wear the "squawk box" since he would have to translate to all of the rest of the crew.  Anyway, on a fighter, I'd think it would be part of the comm, and inside the cockpit where if it were hit by weapons fire the pilot would be dead anyway, so I don't think making it a subsystem would be practical.
who needs a signature? ;)

You could however say that if the comms system is damaged it stops working.

Of course, then you wouldn't be recieving any messages to translate anyway.

Could the translator part of the comm be removed\disabled?
