Change Game Language?
Hey out there,

i hope i am allowed to ask a question, regarding the change of the game language.

As maybe every one know, you can change FreeSpace 2 language in the Windows registry if you add a value called "Language" with value "german", "french" or any other language that exist in (t)strings.tbl.

But how you can change the language, if you do not have a Registry? Like in some Standalone TC's or in the MacOS or Linux releases of FreeSpace Open?

FreeSpace 2 lacks the possibility of showing Umlauts like ä, ö, and ü and accentsymbols like é, both used especially in the german release or in german and french speaking user-made campaigns. You can reactivate them if you use the font01.vf from the German version of FreeSpace 2 (or the french one, of course). But if you use this file, the game language is set automatically to german. You can change the language back to english if you, like i said, use the "Language" registry entry on Windows. But how i can perform this, if i do not have this possibility? Is there something like a custom flag or anything like that, without replacing all #german or #french entries in the (t)strings.tbl with the #English ones?

My english isn't very well, so sorry for a few mistakes.

If the registry key does not exist, nothing is stopping you from creating it. For non-Windows platforms, the registry's duties are covered by the fs2_open.ini file in the ~/.fs2_open directory on Linux, and ~/Library/FS2_Open on MacOS.

I know, but at least Wing Commander Saga does not support this entry and is also missing a *.ini file. So i thought, that there is maybe a general other solution on Windows systems. But maybe the specific WCS code changes are too different.

This is a nonetheless and interesting and helpful information for the future, thank you :).

I cannot say what the WCS executable does or doesn't support. The WCS devs split their code off from ours years ago, and have to my knowledge not provided the source code for what they did.

Bonjour, vous pouvez seulement changer le texte et non le son. Mais cela se fait en changeant les dossiers missions et texte du jeu par ceux qui ont été traduits. Vous trouverez cette traduction sur le forum.
In inglish : you can only change the texte by move the two folders "missions" and "texte". You can find the french version and the german one in the forum.
