HELP! Serious BP2 Glitch
I installed BP and BP2 a few days ago. BP: AoA ran fine; I was able to complete the campaign with no hiccups at all. Awesome mod!

So naturally, after I was done with AoA, I immediately jumped to War In Heaven....But my success with it is a different story. Like the Colossus vs. the Sathanas; War in Heaven is doomed on my system, and I have no idea why.

I haven't even been able to pass the second mission! :banghead: The reason? Everytime I play it, things would be running pretty smooth, then all of  a sudden, my camera just freezes. The radar goes haywire, and I can't move at all. The audio continues running, as if the rest of the game is progressing, no freezes there, it's just that I, specifically cannot move. Looking around is no dice, and I lose all control input. I've given up trying to fix it, so I had to fall back here. Please respond soon! I really want to play this.

My FS2_Open.log is included as an attatchment

I'm sure the log will help. But what are your specs? It will help us to speculate until someone clarifies the source of the issue.

No no, that's not it. This is a glitch. Even my HUD freezes. Like I said, the only thing that continues running is the audio.

So... maybe Intel GPU can't handle high resolution textures? Move adv-bp2.vp out of blueplanet2 and freespace2 folder.

Likewise /blueplanet/adv-bp.vp and /mediavps_2014/MV_Advanced.vp; the log implies you're running out of RAM, and advanced textures are bigger than you really need (or should be using, with an Intel HD 3000).

Looks like to me that you need the compatability patch. I had problems using a Radeon Hd 7700 1GB, but when I got a GTX 770, no problems at all!

The compatibility pack does nothing but comment out the glowpoint overrides to allow running on non-deferred builds, which the current release of BP (the one available through the installer, and which Prince_AKR is already using) already does. There is no reason to install the compatibility pack.

I have an Intel HD 4000 and I can confirm that I can run BP without any issues.

An Intel HD 4000 is presumably more capable than an Intel HD 3000.

I moved both the ".vp" files out of their folders, and now the game is just crashing to the desktop after a few minutes. I think BP2 just hates my system for some reason; every other mod has worked fine thus far.  :hopping:

Re: HELP! Serious BP2 Glitch
Back in the day, when I was working with the SFML (Simple & Fast Multimedia Layer) I experienced some odd problems with oGL and intel HD graphics cards, especially the 3k series. Apparently these cards don't like calls on pixel formats, etc. in multi thread and sometimes single thread environments. The HD texture fix is a good hint but I guess the problem is deeper within the code. Sadly, I don't know enough about the SCP source to be completely sure if this issue can be tracked to the same source. Conformation there would be interesting.

Can you point out where exactly in the mission the game freezes? (Last radio message, for example)
>What ships would warp in next or warped in?
>Which part of the script is about to be executed, next?

One more thing I'd like to point out:
Your log says you have "-no_fps_capping" enabled. I'd recommend not to do this, since it upsets the engine on to high and to low FPS values. Leave frame capping and maybe v-synch enabled, I had my own problems there, as well.

Seconded. Unless you have a very good reason, -no_vsync and -no_fps_capping should not be used; they can easily make the engine more unstable.

Okay; this thing is basically toying with me at this point. BP2 works when it WANTS to. Someone might as well send in a frigate with a giant trollface painted on it.

So I ran another debug session to get the new log fie. And guess what happened? NOTHING! I was able to complete the entire mission; as it didn't freeze after the Ranvir was destroyed (like it usually does), nor did it crash to the desktop.....Wait, there's the catch. So I completed the mission, made it to the debriefing, only to click "accept" and subsequently get an error message, followed by the entire game crashing.

That can be arranged ;)

Did you try debug builds, before? Could be that some critical openGL calls and exceptions were caught, this time, preventing the actual crash...

So I completed the mission, made it to the debriefing, only to click "accept" and subsequently get an error message, followed by the entire game crashing.
The log has no caught or handled exception when the Ranvir goes down. That'd make me mad, too.
Shortly before the crash it reports a warning, though.

"For asteroid 'Small Asteroid', detail level mismatch (POF needs 3)"

Since it's only a warning , therefor it shouldn't have caused the crash, but the last line says differently.

"Int3(): From c:\code\fs2_open_3_7_2_rc4\code\globalincs\windebug.cpp at line 1379"

(Which is the last thing executed before everything crashed...)
If it's actually caused by the asteroid warning I'd assume that there is either a problem with your game files or reading them from the hard drive.
Any suggestions?

*EDIT:
On your crash, it opened a window with "This info is in the clipboard so you can paste it somewhere now", right?
That info would be helpful. I assume you hit "yes" on that error window? Well, that does not work, since you don't have an actual debugger running below FSO. That's why it finally crashes at "Int3()". See what happens if you hit "no". It should try and resume the game, then.
Since it's unable to load those asserts it could BE that your game files are corrupted, but this is a wild guess.

Re: HELP! Serious BP2 Glitch
The detail level mismatch warning is completely irrelevant; just hit "no" when that comes up to continue running.

Re: HELP! Serious BP2 Glitch
STATUS UPDATE: Alright; so I ran the game again, and this time...I made it up to "Darkest Hour" with no hiccups. At this point, the only problem I have is taking down the Valerie, but the game is running as it should right now. Not sure exactly on earth was the matter, and I'm even more lost on why it suddenly decided to comply, but, I can't really complain.

Either way, thanks a lot for all who helped. If another problem presents itself (let's hope not  :nervous:), I'll definitely run it by you guys ASAP. Thanks again!
