Hello together, I am a longtime lurker on HLP and finally decided to try myself at a mini campaign for Freespace, and if I manage to do good even some more.
Right now I just wanted to get some different opinions about my campaign story and execution ect.

The campaign focuses on the founding of a small pirate group a year after the Cappella incident.
During the last hours of the retreat from Cappella a Transport disobeys orders from command and helps another Transport out of the system, even thought he is ordered to depart immediately since he has high ranking GTVA personal on board.
Since the person in Command of this mission sees this as a war crime the operator of the transport is put into jail and some of the assisting pilots are also put in jail or striped of their rank.
As one of the demoted pilots the player character and one of his friends want to break the transport pilot and former friend out of jail.

A year after the Systems from Laramis to Dubhe and all Systems in-between form an independent union without the use of weapons but diplomacy. After long negotiation the GTVA removes displeased all Fleets and most officials from the Systems and only the assurance that the new formed union will pay tributes to the GTVA keeps them from abandoning the Systems altogether.
After the debacle with the NTF and since the newly formed Union is peaceful no one in the GTVA thinks about taking the systems back by force.

The Union on the other hand still has some programs of the GTVA in their space, like the outer prison of Dubhe, which is still held by the GTVA and their personal. Since you and your friend left the GTVA and kept a close eye on your goal to free the Transport pilot you decide to intercept the Transport that will bring him to this prison.

But with the new independence of the Union and the retreat of the GTVA fleets crime syndicates grew and even more pirates started to grow in the outer systems, also brining private security groups,  a new military and self made militias on the table.

So what to do once you also find yourself on the list of pirates in the new independent systems? Be a better pirate then the rest of course.

So far the story part of my mini campaign, thoughts and criticism are welcome.

Also of note, how do you stand on the thought of putting corvette sized ships in the hands of pirate groups? One point for the retreat of the GTVA was that they would be able and willingly to just hunt down every pirate that could get somehow get their hands on one, and since I want my pirate mother ships to move around a lot, be able to both give and take a beating and even launch fighters, I am going with this idea so far.
You are also mostly going to fly very old fighters, like the Valkyrie, the Apollo or the old Herc while also being low on missiles and other drawbacks from being and outlaw.
Also, the aim is not to go full out pirate and capture the Cappella refugees convoy to hold it for ransom  or shooting down fleeing fighters (a ability I am trying to give them) since you and your group are mostly former GTVA and still hold themselves to some standards, while other pirate groups do not.
So the theme I am trying to go for is more about gentleman pirates and adventures with focus on characters and story that go along with the missions, even if the characters are not fully my own creations but fitting the theme.

I was once thinking of a similar campaign,(it might be my next plan,after current mod i'm working on).
Now to the questions themselves:
1.Corvette in pirate hands is OK.If you give them a ship like the Deimos,make it look like a juggernaut compraring to other ships.And for the Mothership,use a carrier like the Hestia,Evangelist or Udjat,they're all ships smaller than destroyer,but have a fighterbay.
2.Old fighters and low missile amount is an excellent idea to give the player a challenge,and give them Ulysses,i find it the worst fighter in the game,and is an excellent,,piece of pirate hardware".
