Has the scoring changed?
I'm just playing FreeSpace 2 after many years. I remember I had gotten up to Captain or perhaps Commodore by the end of the campaign.

After completing the first 3 missions, I had a negative score of -63. This was despite destroying the 2 cruisers (Fenris and Leviathan classes) in the 3rd mission single-handedly with a fighter before the Psamtik fired a shot at them (I destroyed the Glorious before it arrived and the Impervious before it had fired a shot). Checking the stats confirmed that I had gotten both kills. I lost all my wingmen, who were protecting my fighter. I re-armed 3-4 times during the mission. I did cause some friendly-fire hits in a previous mission - I don't know if I destroyed any friendlies. However, I feel that the re-arming is causing too much of a score reduction - I don't think this was the case in the original FreeSpace 2.

I, then, restarted the campaign with a new pilot. I skipped the first 2 training missions, but did the last training mission to get the Wings medal. In the first mission, I got the kill on the Belisarus (I didn't actually take it down by even 1%, but I got the kill). The weird thing is that it shows my "Score from kills only" as 860, yet my "Current score" shows 315. How can my total score be less than the score from kills only? I'm concerned that something might be broken and that I won't be able to progress through the ranks at this rate.

Re: Has the scoring changed?
Anytime you call for Reinforcements or Rearming, your score goes down. I don't know the exact numbers but that's it.

You can gain more points either by playing in a harder difficulty, or by forcing you to not call any reinforcements/rearming. Being rearmed 4 times in a single mission, I find it's quite a lot, you have to save up those missiles :P

Re: Has the scoring changed?
Be advised that there were some problems with the player stats in v3.7.0 (caused by the introduction of the new pilot code).  Create a new pilot and use a 3.7.2 build and see if that still happens.

Can't even remember the last time I even looked at any of my pilot's scores... :)

Of course you lose points for risking the support ship pilot's life. He signed up for logistics to avoid being drafted into the space army...how could you be so heartless?

Thanks, folks.

@Vrets The support ship clearly carries nuclear weapons... that's how it re-arms bombers with torpedoes. I'd love to use it as bait... send it over to the enemy Sathanas and blow it up with Trebuchets.

  • This is fine.
Re: Has the scoring changed?
That is a little confusing. For the first Sathanas they should have had support ships controlled by drones, loaded to the teeth with Helios warheads, and rammed them into the Sathanas. Would have been hilarious to watch, anyway.  :P
If the opposite of pro is con, then is the opposite of progress Congress?

Well what about a kind of Anubis strike, like in Tenderizer ?

Re: Has the scoring changed?
Any tips on killing the Asar a GVCv_Sobek (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/GVCv_Sobek) in Rebels & Renegades http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Rebels_%26_Renegades? I've hit it with 2 full loads of Swarm missiles (also hit it with 3 full loads of Rockeyes on a different attempt), but some jerk manages to get the kill with just 17%. I'm tempted to shoot all Allied fighters at this point, as I can't even tell them to ignore my target or leave in this mission  :p :D

P.S. what's the syntax for href using these URL tags?

Re: Has the scoring changed?
Syntax is: [ url=blah]link-name[ /url] (remove the spaces to make it work, you can also quote someone else's example to see the BBCode)

e.g.
