At the end of class today, we quickly tested the bomb spacewarp in Max, and I had that idea... I quicly got back home with a precise idea of how to do it, and set up a test scene. And I had this pretty Mars model ready...
I think it looks great, but I'll let you judge by yourself :) ( warning, 7mb )

doesn't stop, it's because of the camlera angle, it goes out of the planet following a curve, so in fact when it seems to sllow down, it's because it's going toward you. her, that's not exactly that, but it's hard to explain :p
ok: startrek-like crappy fluff time: the planet is only half burnt, so the wave stops, but then the fire heats the atmosphere that much  that it overheats and his expulsed violently into space :D
ah, what about that? :D

I gather you didn't like?

Pretty cool. Only the second part of the blast shouldn't be so slow, and something should be happening to the other half of the planet.

Well, long ago, stryke posted some pic of a bomb over earth or something like that..... he never actually made an animation, and since it was so long ago, and there's millions of animations that have that sort of thing(freelancer intro... really cool :D), its not really his idea.

I did one from another angle and more effects, but it has some compression bugs ( damn, a 2 hours render :grin: )

No, not just a different angle, but a motion path for the camera - nothing complex, just a simple arc around the planet will be L337! :p

Venom. Used that same explosion to blow up Earth a few months back, minus the sphere, and with me badly botching the midsection. I must say, he did a much better job of it, I sucked at MAX when I made mine.

It's cool, the slowing in the middle is cool too like a spring winding up and then snap! striking out again :)

  Just finish it, let the wave go all they way across the surface and when it meets in the back let us see remains get dragged back from the circles closed epicenter :) like a mini vacum effect...
