Author Topic: new asteroid problem  (Read 2382 times)

I'm making a mission that has one asteroid only.  I want the player to scan the asteroid for one of the objectives.  I have the freespace port mod installed and every time I start the mission, in place of the asteroid, there is a hostile ulyssees fighter.  I don't know what to do.

Most peculiar. It probably has to do with the reason that the asteroid is the last entry in the ship table, and the Port table is a bit stretched. (A new version is on the way, BTW.) I'm not sure if I can help you.

Hey Galactic Emperor. I have an extremely good, new version of the port. Almost as good as freespace1. I need to get it on the web, and I would like to put it in your extras page.

EDIT: Its got TVWar ships, but only a few.

EDIT2: I just thought of this a couple days after posting this. Why not have the asteroid as the first entry in the ships table, and then edit it at the bottom (at the very end) so that default ship is the asteroid, not the Ulysses. Of course then every time you opened the mission you would be crap about invalid player ship, but still, a last resort.

You could also open up the mission in a text editor, then change the ship class.

I don't mean to be rude.

Public release will be whenever somebody gives me the webspace to put it up. We are currently waiting on hosting from HLP, we've been waiting for almost two months.

Yeah, I will. As for your asteroid problem.

Let's see. Put the asteroid up near the top of the table.

 
I got an asteroid problem too
I just made a mission where a big sip is hiding be hind a wall of 300 asteroids. The mission is 95% done and works BUT the asteroids are not solid you go right through them. also they do not take damage or explode?! Please any suggstions.. This ruins an otherwise cool mission Called "Blind Game" recreated the robotech episode where the Zentreadi kidnap the cat's Eye recon plane and Vermillion squad ends up getting caught on board also! By the time Alpha one gets there you only see the tail end of the ship go "Bye Bye" you won't be seeing the main characters for a few months :)

Oh yeah I removed the flas that said no collide... Does nav bouy do anything?

Okay chris, remove the navbuoy flag, I think this has something to do with it also. You can't collide with a navbuoy. If it weren't different, then why not put the cargo flag on it?

 
Lost collide with all other ships!
Now nothing collides with anything (affects only this mission luckily) I spent 10 hours last nightmaking this darm thing.

   I changed everythingback to the way it was but no joy. I have to delete it and do it all over agin/ :(

Are you supposed to be a ble to kill asteroids normally in FS2? Or was it a FS1 thing??? Can we get those asteroids in the game?.... The mission is basicly done I like how tha action plays out, now I just need the damn models to cooperate! :nod:

Is the mission actually using anything from the FS port? If not you might be better off Renaming your data drawer, any VP's that come with the port (wouldn`t know since I haven`t got round to installing it) and playing the mission with a clean FS2.

In fact that's good advice for any mods.

default fs2 'asteroids' are un-targetable and fly-througable. My recomendaton would be to copy another entry (the poseidon or sommat) and take all the turrets off, and then set it as you please, make sure to use asteroid.pof for the model file

Or, just copy the asteroid, name it something like asteroid collide. Then delete the no_collide, and nav_buoy flags and put in something like cruiser, or frieghter.

Actually you might think this funny
The first time I removed the flags everythig crashed. The second time I put cargo.. it turned all the asteroids into Veritechs! I have like 340 enemy veritechs all gunning for my A$$! (I had to make them enemy casuse the enemy battleship was firing at them and it gave itself away which isn't the point of hiding!)... SO I change eveything back to nrmal ready to just let that one thing slide (no collide, fly through asterpoids) and lo and behold NOThing collides with anything (ops!)..

  No I am only using the robotech mod in a Seperate FULL install to prevent bleed over ( I have a 40 drive for FS2 mods)... I old imported teh FS2 asteroid... I'd try FS1 Asteroid but I do not have the game anymore... I will try to find the port and see if they have one I can use... I wil also try that thing about using another ship file... Though I am leary cause before they became veritechs and still had Asteroid .pof in the file?

Oh well.... I am tired I work 10 hours a day now stuffing video games into boxes at a factory (don't all say cool now. It is boring tediuos work)... :nod:
