I don't know if this has been done before, but I want to know if I can get a weapon to go through shields without damaging them. Say, somebody designed a physical weapon, like a bullet that was shaped in a way that it could puncture a fine hole in the shields and go straight to the hull, without harming the shields. Is this possible?

I've been playing around with the targeting laser (ALance) for a shuttle phaser in the AQp2, and I've eventually got it so that it can't penetrate the shields with every shot. It has the same effect as a normal weapon, so not all beams penetrate shields.

Interesting, how'd you pull that off?
WE ARE HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS. YOU WILL LOWER YOUR FIREWALLS AND SURRENDER YOUR KEYBOARDS. WE WILL ADD YOUR INTELLECTUAL AND VERNACULAR DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN. YOUR FORUMS WILL ADAPT TO SERVICE US. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

I just kept playing around with the
Armor
Shields
Subsystem

Once you get to a certain low factor on the shields, it actually doesn't puncture them, it just hits them like a normal weapon.

I don't think this applies to all beams though like the AAA's, etc.

That sounds good! What about weight? I'd be really interested if you played around with the weight so it acted more like a very-underpowered beam. Knocking around the ship bugs me for some reason...

And a green transparent, wide focus beam for the Faustus. That would look so cool.

This is what I did:

Damage = 5
Armor = 1.0
Shield = 0.3
SubSys = 1.0
Mass = 0.0

It may be low damage, but when applied it makes it fairly even... It depends upon how good you are at using it. A good enough pilot can rip a fighter to shreads with the 'Shuttle Phaser', but many pilots wouldn't get any proper benifit out of it.

With the mass at zero, it doesn't push the fighter away, but it still rotates the fighter, nudging it off course all the time, but I don't think this can be avoided.

The other problem is that the ai fighters won't use this weapon... Maybe I have to beam-free it (because it is a beam), but I don't have to for Alpha 1... Oh well... It'll just have to be an experimental weapon for Alpha 1.
