Ok be gentle... :

I know the beam sucks, the Independence's engine glow sucks, the Ind dosn't have a motion blur (I wanted the detail to stand out, or you could say its not actually moving... whatever floats your destroyer).

Not bad. The only thing I don't like is the explosion.

:) Good job.

Damn good for a first try :)

Try blurring the beam a bit or try making it a bit less opaque, the background could be better too. The ships nice - the hangar on the top is interesting (nice to see someone use fenris textures instead of all deimos or something)
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

It looks like the beam in the foreground while the explosion is off in the background, rather than looking like the beam is actually blowing anything up.  Have it disappear into the explosion and re-emerge on the other side in order to tie them together, visually speaking.
Sesqu... Sesqui... what?

that's what everybody criticized when I show the ship the first time, go wonder ( I don't like this one btw, was rushed in two hours, plus at least two more others to try (and fail )debuging something ).

I think it's good... the nebula looks really good on the smaller version, but when it's fullscreen it's pretty low-res looking at 800x600 (meh). Nice anyway, and it's first!

Blur the main ship just enough to take the rough edges off it.
