I, however, am running on a cable broadband line (512kbits). And fattonys.com (and subsequently nodewar.com) are running on some German OC3's with about 2 million other sites.
Though I may have access to a nice remote server running on a T3 line that it shares with a few dozen other rigs sometime in the near future.
nice, nice!!!
i'm on 56K right now

but i'll get back to DSL or even Cable (depending which i decide upon) in the next few days. It's just a matter of finding time at the moment, cause we've got the money and stuff to do it, just can't find the time (for those who don't know i gave up DSL a few months ago because the service provider sucked... i was down more often than it was running)
OC3, very nice! In fact, the fastest connection i've ever been on was OC3 (well, i never HAD OC3, but i've worked with it)... downtown, i surfed the internet and played Starcraft on OC3

It's actually incredible... this was early in the morning, so there were probably only like 15-20 people using the line, and the page actually downloads faster than the computer can handle it, so it lags for like a split second, lol.
Anyway, since VW turned down my hosting offer, i've decided to not go for a dealine (i was going to have the server up by December 1st) but i'm going to take my time now, i'll probably only have it up in the next few months. In the meantime, i know three people personally that have their own server, and i can (probably) get access to them, but one of my good friends gave me FTP access to his, and i'm working on getting Darkage full access too. That server is running on fiber, which is actually incredible, and it's not used too much either, there's probably only like 3 other personal servers on it, and of course a few dozen people use the fiber-optic line for internet access, but that's only a few minutes of the day, so it's usually blazing fast.
Just curious, what exactly are you running (hardware-wise, i don't really need to know what version of Apache, Java, etc. you have)
The one i'm setting up is going to have the following (note "x" next to it means that i already have this part in my possession, items without an "x" mean i still need to buy. i already have the case and power supply)
Asus A7M266 (x)
Athlon 1.4 GHZ (bought, on its way)
1 GB DDR (PC2100)
CD-Rom Drive (x)
Floppy Drive (x) (in fact, i recently bought 5 of them on Ebay)
CD-Burner
Tape Backup (x)
Dual 80 GB Hard Drives (i have one

)
Cables and crap like that i've got boxes full, those won't be a prob.
Yeah, very nice! Did you set the server up completely yourself? what hardware do you have? what are you running?
