1. Sequenced explosions.  Set off explosions at the split subsystems numerically, so if say a mod destroyer has 10 split subsystems, numbered 00 - 09, split00 will go off first and split09 last, with something around a half second delay in between.  Even better would be to read the delay in from ships.tbl and if there is no delay entry, then default the delay to 0.

Knowing almost nothing of FS2's methodology, I can't begin to outline how to do this, I'm sure someone else here can though ;)

2. Planar shockwaves.  Shockwaves in FS2 are always rendered relative to the player, what if were instead done relative to individual ships?  Easiest way I can think of doing this would be to add normals for split subsystems, again with no normals resulting it FS2_open defaulting to rendering the shockwaves relative to the player.  The normal could be a direction from which the shockwave looks as the ani does.  The obvious problem would be if the player happened to be exactly perpendicular to the normal, as he would be viewing the wave from the side; a solution for this could be referencing a second ani - a side ani.
