Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

ROFL - I like the depiction of Israel's response - right to the heart of the matter.

And you know, that scenario is not all that faar-fetched...

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Damn, if it were that fun, they should have killed saddam long ago.

I think my favorite was Rumsfield

not bad, funny in a few places,
you know it would be nice if there was an option to see what happens if we didn't atack, you know things like sadam shipping 57 tons of VX into New York five years from now, or popular upriseings in Iran ousting the exsisting Islamic regiem
this is not a simple war is bad situation there are grave risks in inaction as well as in action
what if we manage to find there missle launchers or the Iraqi military folds under when we arive revealing that Sadam has been living in Lybia for the last two years

I ask you what would you do if a freak burocratic snafu declaired you supreem overlord of the USA, you seem like a smart chap, what is your alternative

Me? If I was in charge of the US, I'd start with breaking it up into smaller, more manageable chunks. This country's too big, too powerful. Can't even care for its own citizens adequately, never mind represent them or take care of the rest of the world- and the world can't abide a superpower. Two, maybe. But not one. Become a harmless trade federation, nobody'll hate you, at least not with a passion, you can become richer than God and get the highest Q of L in the world... hell, look at Europe- and they weren't even competently done. Still got kinks by the dozen, but they're living a hell of a lot easier than anyone in the US is.

There's the remote possibility that Saddam would attack unprovoked, but it's exactly that- remote. He's a smart man. And he cares about nothing more than staying in power He knows that any further attacks on the US would be the end of him- New York nothing, Baghdad and the area for 20 miles around would be an irradiated sheet of glass, US special agents would track down and kill him, his dog, his friends and extended family, and everyone he's ever met, and Iraq would be converted into half Disneyland, half oil rig. And it's obvious. He's not willing to throw it all away for some stupid idealistic cause.

Besides which, as I've said repeatedly, there are infinitely better ways of deposing Saddam, assuming that's necessary (and it might well be a good thing, but I don't ever approve of demanding the overthrow of someone else's government- do I demand you repaint your walls, or get new furniture? Ditch your girlfriend and get a better one? It's not my business unless she's trying to slice my balls off while I sleep or boil my rabbit, and it's not my call to decide what you want. Just as you can ditch your own damn girlfriend if you make up the mind to, people can get rid of their governments with only a fair degree of pain- in cases such as Saddam's, generally much less than an invasion will cause.) than charging in all gung-ho. For one thing, rebellions are quick-n-easy to foment. We've done it before, in other, much more difficult countries. Why not in Iraq? Except that we don't want to- Bush wants it to be all his?

Now- how 'bout you? Surely you can think of a better way to improve things than to risk it all in a war that could turn out to be the bloodiest massacre since Stalin.

I don't think makeing my contry less powerfull is quite the route I'd take, we'd get picked off one by one, and don't wory about us being the only super power Europe is going to get fused into one before long, hopefully we'll still be getting along with them by then :nervous:. and the way things look California is probly going to split off.
what we realy need to do is get off the oil (fuel cells:cool: ) so we arn't at the mercy of these regiems we have had to suport for the last fifty years (saud),
we have caused a lot of screw ups, Iraq is one of them, he probly never would have gotten into power if it wasn't for us covertly(sort of) trying to help him keep Iran botteled up, let alone getting all the weapons he doesn't want to give back
this is one of the reasons why I feel we need to clean this mess up, becase it was our fault in the first place, the people of Iraq deserve a life, and I do think we can give them one (well most of them)

but Sadam does pose a threat to us personaly, he absolutly hates us, Iraq was the only contry to not denounce the  9/11 atacks (I think he had something to do with it, but I have no real proof, and this is mentioned only as evedence of how baddly he hates us), if he could don't you think he would love to kill millions of americans without any direct link back to him,
I think he can and will given enough time

and rebelion in Iraq is not as easy as you would think, as has been demonstrated, he does have the chemical weapons and he is particularly good at useing them at lightly armed rebels (especaly when we fail to suport them like we said we would),
not to mention that there is quite the degree of momentum killing, if you are suspected of thinking about maybe sugesting Sadam isn't the absolute most perfectest ruler in the history of rulerdom you disapear after waching vidios of every woman child and man you have ever known being raped and killed in the slowest posable manner.

in short I don't think that going in there getting Sadam out and seting up a democracy in Iraq is something we can aford not to do in the long run

also another point to think about why Bush want Iraq, think about it, what is one of the contries Iraq  borders, Iran, what is one of the contries that borders Afganistan, Iran, what contry is the spiritual center of the militant Wahabis (OK Saudi Araibia, but Iran is too), there are massive anti government protests in Iran going on, I think in a few years we are going to try and help it,
also Iraq is the number 2 big thing the Islamic world hates about us, the (UN) economic sanctions, if we can get it done how do you think millions of relitivly wealthy Iraqis liveing in a reasonably stable democracy (many years down the road) would do for our image around the world,
and a third point Iraq is funding terrorism in Isrial, why is this our problem? becase we suport Isrial and that is PR problem #1, if we can get a peacfull resolution to the Israili Palistinian conflict those masses of millitant muslums will disapear, but that will _never_ happen while the palistinians are straping bombs to there chests, wich will never stop untill Iran and Iraq stop funding them.
