Yeah, I'm borrowing Kalfireth's subject :p  If anyone happens to run across a high-quality 3d mesh of a basketball, or a glowing wireframe of said object on a black background, could you post it here?  Don't go hunting on my account, but I am putting out a request for HLP'ers to keep their eyes open.

And please, don't ask.  It's for a school project.  If we have any big-time NCAA B'Ball fans here, then I'll elaborate.  Otherwise, it isn't worth it.

Do you need the bumps? If not, then the mesh'd be fairly simple to make - just make a hi poly sphere, and bevel faces for the black bits inwards a little.

And you pinched my Obscure Little Request title in the art forum first! :p

No, not bumps, just a relatively high poly sphere with the black recessed enough to be noticable in wireframe mode.  It's supposed to fade to an actual basketball, (from wireframe) but I need to get the model first.  The other problem is that if I make it fine enough to actually recess it properly, then the wireframe won't be effective.

The why do you need a basketball mesh as such? A fairly high poly sphere would probably look just as effective.

The lines.

Well, it'd be fairly easy to MAKE one... I imagine most modelers would just use a texture for such a spherical object, so you won't have much luck finding something, but it should be fairly easy to make a few approximate shapes, group them, and slap a spherical morph on them (or whatever it is for your program of choice. Simple in MAX, too, I just can't think how to do it off the top of my head).
