PIRATES DESTROY THE FREIGHTERS CARRYING SIDEARMS FOR THE BETA AQUILAE SECURITY - Dan McCoyle, Beta Aquilae
Yesterday night, Galactic Standard Time, a pirate group destroyed a convoy of Poseidon class freighters, carrying sidearms for the Security Forces of the Beta Aquilae Conference. Goverment denies possible sabotage
The accident took place near the Sirius-Alpha Centauri jump node. According to eyewitnesses the escorts were destroyed by mines hidden in the nearby asteroid field, and the freighters themselves by a wing of Ulysses class fighters. How the pirates got their hands on such advanced technology is currently unknown, but an investigation has been started.
"It is likely that the attack was funded by a terrorist organisation in these systems, possibly the Sirius Group or the Neo-Terra. It is highly unlikely, that pirates could conduct an assault on such public place without outside support," said Michael O´Reilly, head of Security at the Sydney Station.
Despite the possible involvement of terrorist organisations, the goverment has overruled the possibility of a sabotage of the Beta Aquilae Congress. "The route of the transports was unknown, they were unmarked, if it weren´t for this accident, the public wouldn´t even know about them." said Cyrus Sinclair, chief of Security atthe Beta Aquilae Congress.
The freighters contained over 900 Subach Sidearms for the security forces at the Beta Aquilae Congress. The destruction of the sidearms will not delay the Congress, according to Sinclair, as a request for replacements has already been sent to Subach-Innes. How such a number of firearms will be delivered to Beta Aquilae in time is, quote "classified at the hightest level".
Tune in on Galactic Herald 1 today at 18:00 GST, for exclusive footage of the attack on the freighters.
