I installed freespace 2 on a new computer, it has the same video card I had been using(radeon 7200) the only difference as far as I know is its running windows XP; for some reason the text in the text boxes and mission briefings flickers on and off and I can't read it.  Is there any way to solve this?

I have Windows XP too but not the problem.
Install the newest driver of your video card.

Were you using FS2_open? Cause the display went strange on me as soon as I used the launcher for 3.5.1 (I also have a radeon 7200).

The solution was to either use Bobboau's latest release or to use the launcher and to turn on the fix for GForce cards. Your problem sounds slightly different from mine but it may have the same solution.

Also, this may not be the cause of your problem, but make sure ClearType is off when you're gaming.

I got it fixed.   I upped the refresh rate on the monitor, don't know why that would do anything but whatever
