Some time ago I had to take FS2 HotU files offline, I have received a few inquiries about this already.

Currently I don't think those files will be online anytime soon, if ever. This is why I need to ask someone else to host those files.

Yes, this is about hosting the vp-files which are missing in FS2 HotU version.

Any volunteers?

Karajorma, you might want to update your FAQ.

Quoted from Karajorma's HotU FAQ

sparky_hi_fs2.vp - Contains the Hi Res info for FS2. You need this to play in 1024x768.
254MB

stu_fs2.vp - Contains the voice files.
170MB

warble_fs2.vp - Contains the music files.
116MB

tangoX_fs2.vp - 3 Files. Where X is 1 to 3. These contain the animations for the command briefings.
311MB

smarty_fs2.vp - The animations for the tech room. Probably the file you`ll miss the least.
120MB

Movie files The last 3 cutscenes were included (you`ll only see 2 depending on whether you succeed or fail in the final mission) but the rest are missing.
539MB

When compressed, the files will be of course a little smaller.

I offered high-res, music, voices and patched (1.2) files on my site. It is not necessary to host them all in one site, but it would be enough if you can host at least those.

Yeah. I'll have to update the FAQ to reflect that the download isn't available anymore. Since I don't have any way to upload the changes at the moment though I think I'll just wait and see if anyone decides to host them for the time being.

I wish I could, but (a) I don't have any FTP space and (b) I don't have a good enough connection.

If everyone just got Kazaa Light and put these files in their shared folder, I'd be happy. I've got bits and pieces of all of them. I'm gonna try and leave my comp up as much as possible with Kazaa open so people can get them from me once I get them, and hope others will too. And could you make a complete listing of the movie files and their sizes in the FAQ as well? That sort of thing is helpful for searches. Or would that be the 1 KB .MVE files in my main directory?

Can't believe it took me all this time to get around to looking for the files. :p

I did consider putting up the movie sizes too but decided not to cause I doubted anyone would be sharing them (after all most people leave them on the CD).

If they don't go up as a result of this thread I'll do an update though.

what about deepeyes?
He was offering hosting for FS mods, and this seems to fall roughly intothat category

As well, please pm me about putting it up on Bit Torrent. The biggest BT site is back up, so I think that there would be quite alot of people that would want to download it..

Kazaa's not worth it if the file isn't _really_ widespread, since everyone's divided among super-nodes, and people connected to one supernode can't see the people on the other supernodes.... I think.

A better bet would be the eDonkey network, or, as was mentioned here, BT.

But someone should really put the ISOs up on FilePlanet, in the non-public section, so that people need to be given a link to find them. That would satisfy the liscence agreement requirements of "friends and aquaintances", as well as negate the issue of having huge files hosted on someone's poor server.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I did a quick search on emule and I think FS1 & FS2 are already being shared on the edonkey network.
