Star Wars Galaxies: so?
anyone get it? I didn't particularly have the money for it last time I was at Best Buy (see the sweetest sin's new collectible line-up ) So I was wondering if it is worth the $50 plus $15 a month to play it?

Personally, as much of a Star Wars freak as I am (yes, people at school call me Luke, Darth, Star Wars, Mr. Force, etc. ) I think I might hold out for World of Warcraft :nervous:

So yeah, is Galaxies the ****, or does Blizzard just have their frozen first around my nuts?

Well, I didn't get it, but from what I've read it totally sucks and doesn't have a " star wars" feel. Basically it's an uninspired everquest clone with very nice graphics. I've also heard it was rushed in release and wasn't ready before the beta ended...

yeesh, delayed 4 - 6 months ( I forget which now) and they still say it was rushed? :doubt:

Well I guess, at the very least, I'll wait for the starship expansion pack (the fact that that's an expansion pack in the first place.... :blah: )

Actually SWG could hardly be further from an everquest clone than it is now - the two games pretty much have have one, and only one thing in common gameplay wise - you play along side other humans. It was not ready for release though, and waiting for the expansion or at least the first many patches is probably not a bad idea. The game *has* potential, but it will take some time before that potential is realized.

a friend of mine has it, he's trying to become a "bounty hunter".

I'm not gonna get it.

I'm saving my money to get Homeworld2 when it comes out ;7

I've heard that it was an OK game that, when it's actually properly finished (so called expansions  ), will be a pretty damn good game. Personally however MMORPGS aren't my cup of tea.

Money is a reason why I don't like online games. The only internet game I have ever played online is of course FreeSpace, that's free and fun.

The next thing I'm getting is Homeworld 2, then I'm waiting on the WoW beta before making a judgement on MMOGs.

My buds at United Gamers Coalition, including Lonestar, the founder of FREDZone, play Star Wars Galaxies and and have have nothing but good comments about it. They even included a public UGC forum dedicated solely to SW: Galaxies. You can find it here:

I won't be able to get this game for a while yet (I don't have the time for MMORPGs until after I finish the bar exam), but I'm definitely going to pick up this game soon.

Multiplayer sucks because people suck :)

If I want to be yelled at for being a "n00b" or conversly yell at someone I'm supposed to be working with because the guy is totally incompetent and mentally defficient...I'll walk along the street.

I don't really like MMORPGs.  I prefer singleplayer and multiplayer when I want it :)

All right, all right, I'll hold off on Galaxies until DatDB can stand on its own (which could be at least one or two more years...). Sheesh. ;) :D

I still think Galaxies is a good game, at least from what my friends tell me.

then again dumbass' who go after the n00bs aren't a majority. I played a few online games ( the ones that didn't force me to pay a monthly fee coz I wanted to try -> project entropia ( I paid what I wanted ), ragnarok online ( beta ), eve ( beta ) and... her... another one I don't remember the name ), and I never met anyone who insulted n00bs. The people who play those games are usualy role playing games fans, which implies they like being in a community, which implies they're friendlier than your average CS grunt ( no offense to the CS players here, but CS prove to have the largest concentration of tards' I've ever seen ).

The thing about MMORPGs is that you spend so much time leveling up or moving around for minutes/hours for stuff or getting special technology or items and many other things.... it feels like a repetition of life out of gaming.

I don't like that kind of play and will continue to prefer story-driven single player games....

However the community interaction in MMORPGs is great and fun at times, like how I played the Eveonline beta for mainly the fun of going out and doing something with people I was familiar with, not for mining endlessly to get the cash for getting some fun hardware.

However I probably won't pay for that kind of fun, at least until MMORPGs progress and get more stable as a genre.
