Disclaimer: I own the CD to be ripped, so no banning and locking please, admins :)

K, so I have a CD with a dodgy bit somewhere. Not sure whether it's a bad sector or actually a corrputed archive or what, but I came up with a genius plan - rip an image of it and try to repair the image with CD Mage. However, CD Mage isn't even bloody recognising the image, so I'm asking you lot what programs you use to dump images. I usually use Blind, which I've used to save first an ISO and then a BIN - neither worked. I thought I'd try another proggie just in case it's Blind causing the problem...

There, that seems like a sufficient amount of techie slang ;7

Since when do you have to use a .bin file with an .iso file? At least I never do. I only use .bin files when I have a .cue image.

Try using Nero to create a .cue/.bin image and then open it in CD mage.

Be sure to set it to MODE1/2352 before you start creating the image file.

I mean I made an ISO, which didn't work, and then I tried making a BIN instead. CD Mage recognised neither image, claiming that the file format was invaild.

Or you could try to load the bin or iso as a virtual drive using Daemon Tools. If you are having problems listening to the CD that might be a solution. If however, your main goal is to burn a working copy on to a CD, then try Nero..

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Well it seems that the error is actually a corrupted CAB. Since the CAB contains 95% of the game, this is a bad thing. What's worse is that it only seems to be having trouble extracting the Acrobat setup proggie, meaning that the actual game may well be fine...

I've found a CAB repairer, and I'm running the setup to see what happens... spookily enough I repaired the CAB inside the image, using the virtual CD drive thingy... that stuff still scares me slightly :)

Right, this is good, you'll like this:

1. Make BWI image of CD using Blindwrite

2. Mount in Daemon Tools virtual CR drive

3. Run CAB repairer on the dodgy CAB inside the image via the virtual CD (ouch, head ****)

4. Run game Setup app

5. The setup can't execute the Acrobat setup, so use File Mirrors to track down the required file

6. Can't replace the required file because the game's Setup is is trying to access it

7. So, copy the game folder to another directory

8. Cancel the setup

9. Copy the folder back to my Games folder

10. Run the registry settings I happened to notice were in there earlier...

Voila! Instant game in perfect working order! Woo-hoo! Thanks for all your suggestions, but I seem to have everything under cotrol now. And with that in mind, it's off to down some ruskies in my Typhoon o' justice ;7
