Well, as it so happens, this week there has been and will be many demos released for new games. Today we had Freedom Fighters and the rolling X2 demo. Yesterday (the the day before) there was the Deus Ex 2 intro movie released, which sort of qualifies. And apparently, next week is the LOMAC demo, for those people who are into that. There was several smaller demos released, such as The Entente, which I haven't tried yet. Here are my thoughts on ther 3 items which I have tried, including the best mirrors (in my opinion) for downloading.

Freedom Fighters  - download - BitTorrent

A squad-based 3rd person action game from Io (Hitman guys), this game has you playing as a group of ragtag American rebels trying to ward of a Russian Invasion of New York (or some such place). The demo has only one level, but it is rather long and very intersting. The game uses the Hitman 2 graphics engine, which really makes Freedom Fighters shine graphically. The control scheme, though not adjustable, is straight-forward and easy to remember. The demo is very varied, including sniping, using a bazooka (against a tank and a helicopter), machine-gunning, as well as your standard run-and-gun action. You have several weapons, including an assult rifle, grenades, molotov cocktails, in addition to the afformentioned sniper and bazooka. All in all, a good game. At the very least, it will provide an enteraining diversion.

X2 Rolling Demo - download

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, a rolling demo means that this is simply an in-game movie. Though the action is render on the fly, in engine, you do not control the action. That said, this is really a nice engine, and looks to be a nice game. An upcoimming space comabt/trade game much like Elite and Privateer, this is Egosoft's followup to their previous game: X-Beyond. The demo shows off some comabt, some trade aswell as building (construction) and indoor environments. The engine is very nice to loook at, and I recommend checking this out to get a preview of the game, which is comming in October.

Deus Ex 2: Invisible War Intro Movie - download - BitTorrent

This is the intro movie to Deus Ex 2: Invisible War, the followup to the classic RPG-Action game from a few years back. The rendering is not ingame, but who cares? The plotline for the movie is very intruiging, with nicely done  voices and music. You will really love this one I think, so download it now. Best of the bunch ( from the ones listed here ).

XIII - download - BitTorrent

An interesting FPS game using cel-shading technology to make the game environment look like a comic book. The demo features 2 levels and comes in at 80mb. The full game features David Duchovny (X-Files) as the lead character in ,what else, a mysterious and winding storyline. XIII uses the Unreal Engine so you can expect some nice eyecandy. I haven't picked this one up, but thats only becuase of my bias against cel-shaded games. If you are an action fan and looking for something a bit different, then this will proabably do the job.

Silent Storm - download - BitTorrent

For those of you who prefer to take it a bit slower, this game is a WW2 tactical RPG by Nival Interactive (Blitzkrieg, Etherlords, Evil Islands). The demo contains a tutorial and 2 missions. Though I have not yet downloaded this game, the screenshots look promising and the developer has a nice track record going, especially when WW2 is concerned. From what I can figure, the game is a squad-based strategy with some trun-based elements. Pick this one and try it out if you are into World War 2, RPGS (and all the sub-genres) or just looking for a bit of fun for the weekend, you will likely not be disapointed.

Enjoy guys, and admins: please don't take down the BT links. The site I have linked to distributes only legal files for game demos and movies, so it is not techincally warez.

_______

Ultima X: Odyssey info - A bit of information over at Homelan Fed, regarding Origin's new Ultima MMORPG that is in development. It uses the Unreal Engine and it is not meant to compete directly with Ultima Online, since they claim the game will play more like single-player RPG. No word on the release date yet.

So they cancel their sequel to Ultima Online, which was way ahead of its time, and then a few years later decide go through the entire development process again?? Its really a shame, the game (Ultima Online 2) was comming along well, it was almost finished. The gaming public got robbed of a cool game, many years ahead of the MMORPG curve and the Origins team got fired, with the last of the original crew departing the company. Who makes these decision, I'll never know...

The game doesn't look so great ( visuals, I mean ), but actually looks very fun, so I wanna see this one.

I dropped out of the 40K scene before they invented the Tau, so I know nothing about them. But do you know how hard it is to find websites about Chaos Gate and the like?

tau rules. well, not again space marines and necrons ( they can do shit about the 3+ saves, and the crisis suits aren't enough to make up for the lack of basic troops options, and that's not that new rail rifle thing that will make a difference :doubt: ).
note that I based my OTT tau on those Tau ( I created my tau before, but they ended up getting railguns like the GW ones :p )

at last, something on DX2! Can anyone translate some of whatever that guy was saying? As expected from the UW engine, the graphics looked very good; I will probably need a new computer to play that. The only thing I didn't like is that the message text seems to be displayed directly in the middle of the screen, which might get annoying even if it is translucent.

I wonder if they will still have all the unintentional comedy scenes that the first game was riddled with... :D

Translate? huh?

Yeah, about the interface, I hope they change it (I think thats what you were talking about). Right no,w its too obtrusive, and the ironic thing is that they were trying to make it more "user friendly" than Deus Ex 1.
