Dunno how important this might be, but the latest Irfanview build apparently supports these direct draw thingies you code monkies seem so excited about. Whether that means it can only open them or can actually save them, I don't know as I have no idea what they are or how they work :)

As I understand it dds files are images with built in mip maps
