Okay, so last week I fried my motherboard and, it turns out, my soundcard. I basically conceeded that it had been a ****ty week and was just grateful that I didn't get hit by a bus on the weekend to round it all off. I was annoyed when my new mobo (Asus A7N8X-X) turned up without a gameport, as it meant that I had to wait for my new soundcard to make an apperance before I could get back flying.
Now, my new Creative 4.1 PCI soundblaster turned up today. I plugged 'er in, and everything seems fine apart from the damned gameport. It claims to be unable to use the resources specified, though it won't tell me what device it's clashing with and a manual inspection of my resources has turned up no suspects. The mobo BIOs claims to have a gameport which can use 0201 or 0209, but the damn thing is physically not there. Disabling the phantom onboard gameport does nothing. The soundcard gameport is supposed to use 0200-0207, so why it refuses to use 0201 like the onboard is beyond me. I've tried both the XP default drivers and the latest stuff from the Creative website. The same model of card and the same stick worked fine with my old A7V8X-X.
Any takers? I'm getting severe altitude withdrawl symptoms here...
