At least for me, I had recently upgraded my video drivers to fully utillise the latest builds, and i now i am unable to use FS.
It give me this message....

Error: Unable to parse sounds.tbl!  Code = 1.

File D:\FSO\fs2_open\code\Gamesnd\GameSnd.cpp
Line: 346

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't wanna sound stupid or any thing but my D drive is my CD-rom drive and the FS disk is in there, i tried to run it without the disk, with the disk same message. Any help?

Specs:
1000 Mhz
PIII 128 Megs Ram
60 gigs HDs
nVidia Geforce 2 Mx/Mx 400

If you are running fs2_open it doesnt care about disks.
Thats very odd, are the drivers beta?

Did you make a species_defs.tbl file? That could be your problem--the sounds.tbl not being changed to reflect the altered number of species.

you don't need a species_defs.tbl.  i don't have one and i'm running everything fine.  i wish there was a way to make sense of those error codes

and the file in the error message is the location of the file on the computer that compiled the exe
