I've got this joystick:

and i want to use is in freespace2.
but there is a big problem with the controlls because i can only bind an button to an action in s2 and not an extra function like an rotate wheel or an axis. Can someone help?

Did you get any profiler software with it? You might be able to do it in that rather than in FS2 itself.

I've got the same joystick, Saitek X45. The way I have it set up, I use the throttle as an absolute speed axis, the rudder paddles as a roll axis, the joystick as normal.
From what you say you seem to want to make the two trim wheels do stuff too, like setting control zones so different stuff happens in different positions. If that is the case, then you probably need to roll back to an older version of the profiling software (an iso is available somewhere on the Saitek forums), where you can do that. You ought to be able to do it in newer versions, but for XP compatibility they got rid of some features in interim versions like the drivers I got with mine, so I don't know whether you can do advanced stuff with your current profiler.

EDIT: You mention binding the axis too. Straight off the bat without control zones, sure, that's possible - it's what I've done. Just move the axis when in bind mode in FS2.
EDIT2: That's one crazy pic of the joystick you've found there, I just noticed that all the glowy bits are solid colour instead, except for there being a lens flare on the mode selector. WTF?

Is this joy good for playing FS? I mean... do you recommend this joy? I must buy one immediately :).

Yes, it's excellent. I never bothered getting the knobs to work, sense I had the rudder bound to the rudder detents(underside of the throttle) and most everything else bound to the buttons/hat switches. Only thing I used the keyboard for was the communications and power distribution.

i like it to but my only problem is i cant use the rudder etc.
and i didnt found anything on the saitek forums... someone got a link or something like that?
but the joystock is awesome!

Not sure if I can find anything on the forums, I'll take a look. I think you're talking about what I mentioned in my first edit though. All you seem to want to do is bind the axes to FS2 controls - which you do in the same fashion as you do a button, except you wiggle the axis instead of pressing a button. Hell, it even works with the thumbwheels because they're treated as axes too.

I'd also sincerely recommend the joystick too. It's a really nicely built HOTAS that costs virtually nothing.

I looked at it, and the only thing I didn't like about it was the handle didn't twist. I'm still probably gonna get one of them though.

Personally I hate handle twists, they're awful for prolonged use. There are finger paddle things on the back of the throttle that you use for that axis, and which I infinitely prefer :)

You mean, the x and y axis on the joystick work, but none of the axes on the throttle? Could you look at your settings for me please? Go to:
Start - Settings - Control Panel - Gaming Options - Make sure the X45 is selected - Properties
There should be 4 axes in the top-middle of the screen, labelled Throttle, Rudder, Rotary 1, and Rotary 2. Is this correct?

jup, but those i cant use in game, right?

Wrong. Whereabouts are you in the FS2 control settings? You need to bind them to specific controls, as only some of the controls accept axes. These are:
 • Turn (yaw) axis
 • Pitch axis
 • Bank axis
 • Absolute throttle axis
 • Relative throttle axis
All of which are under the 'ship' section of the control settings. I'd not recommend binding anything to the Relative throttle axis, use the Absolute throttle axis instead. I have mine set up with the joystick throttle as Absolute throttle, the Rudder as Bank, the main joystick left-right (x) axis as Turn (yaw), and the main joystick up-down (y) axis as Pitch. I don't use the thumbwheels for anything.
I hope this helps.
