Hello.  I'm a big Freespace universe fan and have been a reader of these forums for quite a while now.  You all do an amazing job here, whether it be creating and testing mods and improvements or getting into technical canon discussion of FS.
My question today is a simple one, but one that I've had problems finding an answer.  Does a mod that eliminates the recoil of a maxim cannon exist?  I use the maxim from time to time, but I would find it more enjoyable without the distracting shaking involved with firing it.  If the fix is simple or doable without a mod, can someone help me do it?  Thanks!

wlcome th the hlpbb. there are really no exits, they just tell people that to the sides and to the rear. unfortunately when they built this place they forgot to install the airlocks, so opening the exits would mean certain death. flame throwers are under the seats, but ive been lax in napalm production and they ended up becoming filled with holy water. plasma cannons and shotguns can be found in the weapons lockers, but they only give the combo to the v gods, the admins, and that hyperintelegent shade of blue which likes to hinder my napalm production. maybe i can sell you a hacksaw. if you absolutely need a deadly weapon, stop by my quarters and il sell you a nuke or a gatling gun. if you should be in the air ducts and hear a rattling noice, thats probibly the resident shivan, carl. they say if you throw him your lunch you will be safe. but sence ive ben using bag lunches for bait in my gatling gun shivan traps, they seem to adgitate him. maybe you should try giving him a hug instead. have a nice day :D

Just remove the "shudder" from the flags section of the weapon in weapons.tbl.

Thanks for the help so far.  I've managed to extract weapons.tbl from the root vp file in order to edit it, but what do I do with the edited weapons.tbl file?

 
Unless you have VP making software, simply put the table into Freespace 2/Data/Tables.


If you have VP making software then re-make the VP using the edited table.

Actually.. I would say that never add or edit stuff to the mod / mediavp / retail VP files if you expect people to be able to help you with troubleshooting your (possible) problems. Make new VP files instead or leave the stuff outside VP files as there isnt really any gain in putting the files into the VP files anyway.

in other words make a new folder in your freespace dir and give it a name (the name of your "mod"), then put a folder in that one named data, in that folder put a folder named tables, and stick the modified weapons.tbl in there. then in the launcher, select the first folder, the one with your mod name, then run the game.

I'd just leave it in Freespace 2/data/tables. Easier than friggin around with making VPs. :)
