Does changing turret AI in FRED do any good?
And if yes, how can i set default turret AI in the tables?
The Best is Yet to Come

If I recall correctly, increasing the level of the turret AI makes the turret's rate of fire faster.  I'm not sure if it affects accuracy, however.

As for changing the AI class for the turrets in the table, I'm not sure how to do that.

AFAIK, changing AI only alters rate of weapons fire.  That's it.

The turret standard, and AFAIK, is the same as the ship standard, set in the table entry.

No, because in FRED you can set a different AI for each turret...

i think turrets gain the same AI class as the ship they are in UNLESS specified otherwise in the turret....something like having the default weapon unless specified otherwise in Fred, but of course i'm not sure about this....

that i know for sure is thatb the turret DO fire a lot faster if you set the AI of the ship to general, but it don't appear to fire even faster than that if you set both the AI of the ship AND the turret to "general"

Easy enough to test. Set the AI level higher in FRED. Save the mission and reload. See if the AI Level on the turrets has changed :D

Well, regardless of the AI the turrets seems to fire with the same precision/ROF...

I said the standard, ie the INITIAL setting, the default setting, is the same as the ships pilot AI:rolleyes:

I never said you couldn't change it in FRED...

Quite right Raptor

I've experimented with this in the past. The only real difference you can make with the AI settings for turrets is accuracy. Thus I cloned the Captain entry in the AI table, renamed it to 'turret' and whacked the accuracy right up. Then I set my cap ships to use that AI (so all the turrets will be default) and presto, proper machine guns on the turrets. Adjust the weapon's refire rate to taste :)

Thankyou:D

I've done the same thing, only my AI class is called 'Warship'

Say, what value of 'Acceracy' do you use? (Worst choice of words ever there:doubt: oh well)
