Custom subspace vortex texture/ani?

Would it be possible to use more than 2 ANIs or EFFs for a subspace vortex (both for ships and the create-vortex sexp)? I'm working on a little side project and would love to be able to create a blood-red vortex that Shivans can emerge from. We have more explosion and shockwave animations so it would be nice for this to be extended to the jump vortices as well.

I've been wondering about this as well.  I think it would be useful.
