Hi,
i tried installing Freespace 1 on my notebook, a Sony Vaio SR21k, pIII 650mhz, 192 mb ram, S3 8mb onboard graphics, windows 2000, dx8.1.

It installs ok, but when I hit play nothing happens. Is this a common win2000 thing, or is it sumfing specific to my setup? Any workaround?

compatibility mode?

FSO using the Port? err, scratch that last part, you sys won't run it with that pro and graph card. So you're besst bet is playing around with the compat mode stuff. dunno how much of it is supported by 2k.

2k Supports compatability mode from what I've heard.

Right mouse on the icon then choose properties. Play about with the compatability options and see if that helps.

Runs fine for me, exccept that there's no hardware renderring. I'm 2k also.

I can install it in XP also but it doesn't work. Even with the compatability mode on.

no, no compapibilty mode on my rig. I googled it and found a site that mentioned that compability mode can be enabled through registry in win2k (latest sp), but it didnt say how, and I cant find any info on it at microsoft.com. (wtf)

funny thing, the FS1 demo runs alright, but not the full game. I havent been able to patch it (but i used patched demo). The game setup patching doesnt work anymore, and the patch I found here at HLP doesnt work with european version. :\ Anyone know where I can get european patch?

another possibility is that FS has problem finding the CD-drive (its a pc-card drive). Anyone know where to find nocd patch for FS1? (Megagames doesnt have it anymore).

ok, I got it to work now, all it took was to find the right patch after all (found it here: http://www.interplay.com/support/product.asp?GameID=111 )

PS. I'm still interested in finding a no-cd crack for FS1 1.06 (uk version), since my notebook has an external CD that I tend to leave at home. The site Kara recomended only had the german 1.06 crack.
