Whispers of a Freespace mod for HW2
I've been hearing rumors all over HLP about a Homeworld 2 Mod that puts in Freespace ships.

Anyone got any links\pics\info?

And on the subject...anyone seen a HW2 map editor?

Unfortunately the mod lead, Devils_Hitman, has announced he's stopped working on the mod.

You know what..... thats a damn good idea Turumbar!!!!

Well .... no promises, since I am pretty new to modding FS2, but I have been looking at an excuse to start working on a mod for FS2 that hadn't already been covered.... and I think this might be it :D

If no-one else has started one...

consider it started!!!!

oh ...yes... Turumabar...  word of advice ;) ... steer well clear of black swords and don't listen to dragons...

It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

ShadowPuppet: I know what you mean there, I've been itching to do a mod as well after seeing all the great stuff on this forum.  I have an idea, but I'm a little wary sharing it just yet :)

By mod do you mean campaign or do you simply mean a new ship? I don't want to discourage you but mean making a campaign I'd advise you to think hard about it. Campaigns take a long time to make (years  for the bigger ones) and many new people make the mistake of starting one and then abandon it when they get bored/realise how much work it is.

My advise is to play about with modding/FREDding and then join a team. Most of the teams on HLP are actually quite desperate for talented people so don't think that just cause you're new no one will want you. Put together a good demo mission or a nice looking model and then say that you're willing to join a team and you'll be snapped up in minutes. :)

However if you really have a good original idea for a campaign and really think you can do it on your own go ahead. The fact that Homesick (pretty much the best campaign released so far) was developed by one person working alone shows that it is possible if you're willing to work really hard at it.

Actually, I've made campiagns before.  I did a campaign ages back in FS1 called Omega Horizon, it was some 50 missions long with several different ending paths

I'm actually thinking of doing a mod that contains a collection of new from scratch ships, new visual effects (or using the updated visual effects package that's available) and possibly a small campaign, with the intention of the mod being for others to make more campaigns using it.

Then you'll know exactly what I mean about it being hard work :D

Good luck if you do decide to do something new

My intention is to start modelling Homeworld ships. The modelling aspect is something I know I can do! Looking at the original Homeworld models, they are not exactly 'detailed' and could be made to look pretty damn good with the SCP ability to handle detail.

The mission side of it would be the hard bit for me. I know what you mean about the amount of work modding involves ( I have worked on mods before elsewhere) and the spiritual dead-end of the 'unfinished mod that you can't be bothered to work on anymore' ;)

My plans are fairly simple....

1) Start building the player flyable ships. This is a fairly low number for basic Homeworld. Scout, fighter, bomber for Taiidan and Kushan sides. Then I can add some corvettes. I don't know of fighters can have turrets .... but I didn't really envisage flyable corvettes! A repair corvette for the supply ship.

Then, capital ships can be started. Finally....of course.... the Mothership would have to be done.

If the basic numbers of ships are to small for 'fun' then some of the Cataclysm vessels could be drafted in to make up numbers.

Ideally, I would want the campaign to take the form of 'one mans view of Homeworld' from a fighter pilots view.

I reckon that by starting off JUST building some of the vessels, I should be able to work my way forward.

p.s. I don't intend to use ANY of relicvs models or textures, but will do my own, based on the ships.

p.p.s. I have been invovled with a couple of other mod projects, but don't really get that much enjoyment making ships for other people to 'their' designs! It's hard enough to find the time to work on a project as it is, let alone making things you don't enjoy!!!

Oh well ;) .... better find some free webspace and knock up the obligatory 'half-assed to hold screenshots'' website for the new project :D

BECAUSE I AM GOING TO DO THIS :D
