What do you think?
I've been working on this for a couple of days in Blender.  It's based loosely on the Hastings from Deadly Tide, a rail-shooter from several years ago.
GTD Pendragon

1111 verts
2277 faces, non-triangulated(though most are triangles)

I know the engine pod on the back is lousy, it's a placeholder.  I will probably add in several of that turret I posted a few weeks back once I get the hull details done.

most of them are in the Subspace Inhibitor on the front there, more still are used in the way I used Blender's subdivide to get vertices in the correct place without ruining the shape of the model.  There is a Launch Bay and other things I will optimize before proceeding further.  I expect this monstrosity with end up being in the high 5000 range as there is still a decent engine assembly, the bridge and a mammoth dish opposite the Subspace Inhibitor.  Not to mention the turrets.  I'm a little nervous about those, I'm not going to mess around with multipart turrets, but I've never woorked with hierarchical models before, other striping the LODS out for the odd goof-off render that never goes to a file.

Well, if the GTVA ever end up in a system without a sun, at least they'll be able to see where they're going. :D

turretting isn't that hard (though truespace does have the trueview advantage, don't know about that program of yours :))

in the FS wiki is a link to turretting tutorial if you haven't found out already, give it a try.

BW, I assume that you mean the subspace inhibitor assembly on the front looks vaguely like a flashlight?  I'll try and work on that, but my Windows install decided to die all of a sudden like so I'm working on restoring it today, I did manage to save most everything however.
