As you may know if you read the SCP forum, I am working on an article for PlanetDescent that I hope to convince Gamespy features editor to push out to the whole network.
It concerns you all

here's the relevant section of the letter I sent to Kevin Bowen, who is overall planet site director (and the guy who sent me the E3 pass for Gamespy):
I am working on an article on various independent development efforts in the
Descent and Freespace game space. Basically, several of the earlier
Interplay published games (noteably Descent 1 and 2, and FreeSpace 2) have
had their source code made public, and most of the Descent and Freespace
games have publically created toolsets, and small groups of independent
developers have banded together in each case to maintain and extend those
games, in many cases modernizing them to the point where they are close to
on par with newly released PC titles.
Of course, the release of source code isn't new news, but, it seems pretty
hit and miss whether groups spring up and take on any "official" banner, so
it seemed a worthwhile piece to write, especially given the recent troubles
Interplay has had, the company that was "By Gamers, For Gamers" is having
more than a few of it's products maintained "by gamers, for gamers."

Basically, I am working on the article I mentioned about, but, I certainly could use help. I know all about things like the FS SCP, since I "run" it, but I could use help getting information and conducting interviews of people like the D1x and D2x project leads.
So, anyone wanna help?
