ookay, obviously we got our lines crossed somewhere, you're going on about real-time vs turn-based.
well, i got news for you bucko, it makes no difference, play arcanum, or fallout tactics, it gives you the choice of real-time, and turn-based.
hell, even P&P rpgs have a degreee of 'real time' to them, as it's all up to the roll of the di, you cannot pause, or put a halt to the other players, or the gm's mind.
RPG, stands for ROLE PLAYING GAME (yes, i do realise that you'd know this, but i'm just being an ass

and i'm trying to make a point)
it doesn't say anything about whether it's real-time, or turn-based, combat.. some people like twitch gameplay, some like to patient in their tactics, it's really up to them..
but, don't say baldur's gate, or anything like it isn't a true rpg 'cause it's not turn based 'cause that ain't true, and you know it, as i said before, RPG's just give you a set of shoes to fill, and a character to develop the way you want it, you're playing a role, whether it be knight, palalidn, cleric, or jedi. you create a character, to play that character, and that's your role to play..
and baldur's defined the RPG genre for quite some time to come. it was epic. now, i've got fallout, and fallout 2, great games.. decent ones at that. but, it's an RPG nonetheless. if you say that baldur's is not an "True" RPG, you're doing the entire genre a grave disservice.
and let's face it folks, turn-based gameplay is as old as dirt itself, take a look at chess for pete's sake.
