I don't know why you should be having trouble scanning the Eva in that mission. Volition made a seperate ship entry for this Eva
Oy. Both of you have gotten everything
entirely backwards.

First of all, he's playing
Freespace 1...

Second of all,
the Port made a duplicate ship entry (not Volition) because Volition changed the scanning behavior in Freespace 2. You only need one entry in FS1, because you scan the ship as a whole. In FS2, when scanning destroyers and up, you can only scan subsystems. Thus the duplicate entry was needed so that we could pretend the Eva and the Lucifer were corvettes for that one mission.
The best way to scan something is to do exactly what Snipes tells you in Rebels and Renegades: keep the lead indicator in the center of your reticle. It actually helps if you turn
off subsystem targeting, because that way you can see the lead indicator for the whole ship. When scanning the whole ship, you have to face the ship's lead indicator, whether or not you're targeting a subsystem. It's only when scanning a subsystem that you face the subsystem indicator.
Clear?
