Yeah, the bloody Space Water Pistol that was okay against most stuff(NTF) but as soon as it's actual opponent(T3H S4!V4N5!!!!!oneoner0x0r) shows, it folds like cheap newsprint.

The Collosus was an OK ship, but in FS2, shivan beams have more power and fire twice as fast.

I once equalized shivan and teran beams, and the Collossus waxed the Sath (just barely..the second time thy killed eachother)

yes, the collosus was made to bring down a lucifer, gtva didn't even know about the sathani.

and I haven't got hw2 (or 1 for that matter), and they don't look like my cups of tea either.

it also depends a little on where you place the ships when they battle each other. if the collossus is behind the sathanus in the start, it actually deals quite a deal of damage before the sathanus has turned around to shoot...

It the Sathanas approaches from the rear of the Colossus (or possible the top / botton), it should tear it into shreads.  Side on, I think the Colossus has the advantage...... weak spots of FS2 ships are always the engines (rear), and IIRC usually the tops / bottoms.

Maybe it's someting that should be worked more into missions... i.e. using fighters and smaller capships to maneuver the larger enemy ships into position, or simply just stripping a side of the enemy ship in preperation for a capship to jump in and finish the job.

Thats the way it works in both HWs. Capships take more damage in the engines, top and bottom armor. The only two ships that can fire directly aft are the Hiigaran Battlecruiser and the Flak Frigate. The best way to destroy a Vaygr Battlecruiser is to send in fighters and bombers ahead, have the fighters distract it while your bombers take out its engines (and then the other subsystems). Your capships then just come in and take it out, taking minimal damage in the process (provided you've disabled the missile launcher and engines).
The Vaygr 'Cruiser has three bow mounted cannons that can take out a frigate in a single hit. Innaccurate as hell against ships that size, but when it does hit, BOOM!

I see 5 classes: Deimos, Hatshepsut, Nephilim, Erinyes, and Manticore.  It's a really unbecoming angle on the Hat, though.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
